Theater Etiquette
Whether this is your first visit to Tacoma Musical Playhouse or you are a long-time member of the TMP family, we want to ensure that you enjoy every moment of your experience with us. If you have any questions about our accommodations or services, please call 253.565.6867 or e-mail the Box Office directly.
Accessibility
Tacoma Musical Playhouse lobby and restrooms are now fully wheelchair accessible. TMP offers limited wheelchair seating in rows P and Q near the rear, house-left entrance into the auditorium. Advance reservations are required to secure this seating as this area may be sold-out at any performance.
Parking
TMP is fortunate to have plenty of parking available across the street in the Park-n-Ride lot. Use of this lot is FREE for patrons and will not interrupt the parking for our neighbors on the residential side streets. There are two, lit crosswalks to facilitate safe crossing of 6th Avenue.
Arrival Time
Performances begin promptly at 2:00 pm and 8:00 pm, unless otherwise noted. We encourage you to arrive at least 15 minutes early. If you are picking up your tickets at the Will-Call window, you must claim them by 10 minutes prior to curtain. In the event of a no-show or late arrival of a patron, TMP reserves the right to re-sell a seat to another patron waiting on stand-by. Doors open 45 minutes before the show and seating begins 30 minutes before the curtain.
Attire
Modest, comfortable attire is appropriate for all TMP productions.
Box Office & Tickets
The Box Office is located just inside the TMP lobby. You may purchase tickets in person at the Box Office with no additional fees or service charges. Box Office hours are Tuesday-Friday, 10:00 am-6:00 pm, and two hours prior to curtain for tickets to that day’s performance. Tickets can also be purchased online through TMP’s secure website 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with no additional service charge. Online orders are not fully automated, therefore, please allow a minimum of 48 hours before a show when placing an online order. Orders placed within the 48 hour window cannot not be guaranteed to be received or processed in time for your selected performance date.
Tickets purchased through the Box Office either online or over the phone are available for pick-up at the Will-Call 45 minutes prior to curtain. Tickets may also be picked up in the Box Office during normal, weekday Box Office hours.
Tickets
Tickets are non-refundable. If you’re unable to attend a performance, you may either give your tickets to a friend and allow them to experience the theater, or donate your tickets to TMP as a tax-deductible donation. To donate tickets back to TMP, please call 253.565.6867 a minimum of 24 hours prior to your ticketed show date.
If you lose or forget your tickets, please call the Box Office in advance or check in with the Box Office attendant at the show. You may pick up new tickets at the Box Office the day of the show.
A nominal service charge is applied to some changes made to season subscriptions.
Third Party Tickets
Tacoma Musical Playhouse does not sell tickets through any third party organization. Official TMP and TCMT show tickets can only be purchased through the TMP Box Office staff.
Cameras & Recorders
The use of any audio and/or visual recording device is strictly prohibited inside the theater. Cast members will always be available in the lobby for photographs after each performance.
Cell phones, pagers & watches
Please turn off cell phones, pagers and watch alarms before the performance begins.
Children
TMP & TCMT enjoy presenting many options for family entertainment. All children attending a production require a purchased ticket, even if the situation is such that the child spends the majority of the performance in a lap. Special pricing is available for children for all productions, however, parents are strongly encouraged to be sensible when determining the appropriateness of the subject material for their child, as well as the ability of the child to endure being seated in the theater for the length of the production. TMP productions are generally suitable for ages 6 and above, however, some shows deal with mature themes and may not be appropriate for all children. TMP firmly believes that it is the parent’s responsibility to make the any determination regarding appropriateness of the subject material or physical abilities of their own child. TMP provides a printed synopsis for each show, as well as the interactive Behind the Curtain! at TMP preview presentations to assist parents in informing themselves about an upcoming production. Parental Guidelines are provided online for some TMP productions, as well. Complimentary booster seats are also available to request from our House Managers or Ushers.
Emergency Contact
It is a good idea to leave the following information with your sitter or service, so we can quickly locate you in the event of an emergency:
TMP phone number: 253.565.6867
Your seat location, row and seat number.
Food & Drink
Refreshments are available for purchase before the show and during intermission from our concessions counter. Food and open (uncapped) drinks are not permitted inside the auditorium during the performance.
Late Seating Policy
Patrons arriving late will be seated at the first suitable pause in the performance in the least disruptive location. Seating time and location is solely at the discretion of the House Managers. In the event of a no-show or late arrival of a patron, TMP reserves the right to re-sell a seat to another patron waiting on stand-by.
Lost & Found
To inquire about a lost item, please call 253.565.6867, Monday–Friday, 10 am–6 pm, or e-mail the Box Office. Please include your name, daytime phone number, seat location, performance date and a description of the item. Lost & Found items are stored for three months, and then donated to charity.
Patron Considerations
Please remember to limit the use of fragrances, to refrain from talking or singing during the show, and for parents, to be cognizant of your child’s ability to sit through a show without taking away from the experience of your fellow patrons.
Ushers
If you experience any discomfort during a performance, an usher or our House Managers will be glad to assist you.
Weather
All performances will take place as scheduled, regardless of weather conditions. Performances may only be cancelled in the event of a complete power outage.
