Youth Educational Opportunities
The Education Program at TMP provides an enlightening experience in musical theater arts, including instruction in both performance and technical aspects, with an emphasis on teamwork and personal growth. The youth education program now serves ages 4 to 18. For more information, contact the Director of Education.
ACT @ TMP!
Tacoma Musical Playhouse is pleased to offer courses designed to help students aged 4-18 to reach new heights in their studies of Musical Theater. The Academy of Classes for Theater at TMP (ACT @ TMP) offers Saturday morning classes lead by local teaching artists and performing professionals who will challenge and inspire students while building a solid base of the skills necessary to succeed in Musical Theater. Each session will include 10 classes, and each term offers a wide variety of courses to choose from.
Tuition for these classes is $160 for one session. Individuals registering for multiple classes, or with a friend or family member, will qualify for the Companion Discount:
Two sessions (20 classes) = $290
Three sessions (30 classes) = $375

After-School Academy
Fall, Winter & Spring Sessions
The After-School Academy program offers students the opportunity to acquire basic skills including singing, dancing, acting, collaboration and teamwork throughout the school year in a performance-based setting.
Classes this session will meet Mondays, Wednesdays AND FRIDAYS after school. Performances are scheduled on the Saturday morning following the final day of the class.

Winter Break Youth Musical Theater CampTMP
This intense, week-long program culminates with two performances of a fully-staged, Broadway-style musical.
ONCE ON THIS ISLAND, JR.
December 19, 2009 - January 3, 2010
This highly original Caribbean adaptation of the popular Hans Christian Andersen tale "The Little Mermaid" garnered eight Tony nominations for its Broadway run, including Best Musical, Book and Score. In almost non-stop song and dance, the show tells the story of Ti Moune, a peasant girl who rescues and falls in love with Daniel, a wealthy boy from the other side of her island. When Daniel is returned to his people, the fantastical gods who rule the island guide Ti Moune on a quest to test the strength of her love against the powerful forces of prejudice, hatred and death.

Join Alice's madcap adventures in Wonderland as she chases the White Rabbit, races the Dodo Bird, gets tied up with the Tweedles, raps with a bubble-blowing Caterpillar, and beats the Queen of Hearts at her own game! Roles are plentiful, including three Cheshire Cats and dozens of other wonderfully wacky characters. This fast-paced stage adaptation of Alice in Wonderland features updated dialogue and new arrangements of such classic Disney songs as "I'm Late," "The Un-birthday Song" and "Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah."

Summer Youth Musical Theater CampTMP
July 19 - August 15, 2010
This four-week musical theater experience offers a more in depth study of the musical theater production process and culminates with two performances of a fully-staged, Broadway-style musical. Programs are available for students entering grades 1-3, 4-6 and 7-12.

HONOR CampTMP
The HONOR CampTMP offers a more professional environment and advanced training for a select group of students. The participants for the HONOR CampTMP are chosen from open auditions and based on a series of criteria intended to reward those students who show exceptional aptitude and a positive attitude.

Student Matinee
To increase accessibility for students, TMP offers a special mid-week matinee performance for school groups to attend a live musical theater production. This year’s selection of shows includes Junie B. Jones, Anne of Green Gables, and Peter & the Wolf.

NEW..."Your School's A Stage!"
TMP educators bring musical theater training to your school!
Tacoma Musical Playhouse is pleased to announce another exciting educational program!
Your School's A Stage is a performing arts partnership between TMP, local schools and the community - providing onsite musical theater education and performance opportunities for students at their school. The traveling artistic staff of TMP comes to your school to teach and rehearse students. Your parent volunteers provide the behind-the-scenes support; and family, friends and community members attend the fully-staged student performances at the end of the session at your school.
Your School's A Stage meets daily for two hours at your school immediately after school for four weeks. Two public performances are held at the school at the end of the fourth week.
