Jon Douglas Rake, Founder and Managing Artistic Director

Jon has spent nearly all of his adult life devoted to musical theater.  He began his career as a professional dancer and soon discovered his unique talents for choreography and directing.  Educated at the University of California, San Diego, Jon has produced, directed, choreographed or acted in well over 200 musical theater productions at the professional or community theater level on the West Coast.  He founded Tacoma Musical Playhouse in 1994 to fill a gap in the Tacoma theater scene.  TMP is the only South Sound theater company devoted to producing musicals exclusively.  His creative energy is the driving force behind the company.  Jon’s other interests include historic architecture and gourmet dining.


Jeffrey Stvrtecky, Music Director and Business Manager

Jeffrey earned his B.M. degree in Piano from Wheaton College and his M.M. and D.M.A. degrees in Choral Music from USC.  He has conducted and studied at numerous workshops and festivals including the Dale Warland Master Class, the Oregon Bach Festival and the Aspen Music Festival Choral Institute.  He served as Director of Music at the First United Methodist Church of North Hollywood for 11 years and as Music Director of the Burbank Chorale, where he conducted concerts of major works including Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Durufle’s Requiem and Mozart’s Coronation Mass.  He was the Founder and Music Director of Tacoma Master Chorale, founded in 1994.  Jeff served as Director of Music at First Christian Church, Tacoma.  He has also maintained a studio of private voice and piano students.  He was an Instructor of Music at Tacoma Community College and Charles Wright Academy.


Sue Snyder, Marketing Director

Sue has over 25 years marketing, sales and distribution experience in the entertainment industry including brief stints with Washington State’s economic trade and development group and the World Trade Center Tacoma. She began her career with Sony Music in Seattle as a Single Sales Regional Coordinator and has held several national management positions of increasing responsibility within sales, artist development and marketing, at Capitol-EMI Music, Warner Bros. and the Walt Disney Company, in Los Angeles, culminating in her most recent role as Marketing Director at Tacoma Musical Playhouse.  A Tacoma, WA native, Snyder holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Marketing from the University of Washington and has received several certificates in Digital Marketing.  


Jill Voelker, Development Director

Jill discovered a passion for fundraising and event planning with her first job out of college where she organized outdoor day camps for the Boy Scouts of America, in Denver.  She has worked or volunteered for a variety of other non-profits throughout her career raising funds for higher education, a hospital foundation, for people with disabilities and for a service dog training organization prior to joining the TMP staff. Jill has also spent over 25 years learning about wines of the world…from lots of tasting, to working in a winery tasting room in Oregon and as a wine buyer for a shop when she lived in Texas. Other interests include traveling, spending time with her Bernese Mountain Dog and quilting.


Linda Palacios, Education Director

Linda has been involved in theatre for as long as she can remember. After years of performing as a singer, dancer, and actress, Linda attended California Sta

te University Long Beach where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Direction and Performance. Shortly after graduating, she went on to earn her teaching certification. As a military wife, Linda has spent the past twenty years, traveling the globe with her family teaching kindergarten – twelfth grade. During that time, she established drama programs for various schools, taught children of all ages about the theatre, directed many shows and continued to perform whenever she could do so. Today Linda can be found teaching theatre arts to elementary aged students for the Steilacoom Historical School District, directing Family Theatre productions for Tacoma Musical Playhouse, performing on stage, or spending time with her family. Some of Linda’s favorite projects here at TMP include: The Little Mermaid – Director Summer Camp 2016; Elephant and Piggies, “We Are In A Play” – Director, Family Theater 2016-2017; and The Addams Family Musical (Morticia Addams). Linda is excited to bring her love of the arts and her passion for education together in her new role here at TMP.

Janet English, Costumer

I have a lifetime of passion for the theater. I am so excited to be on the TMP team. I come with 30+ years of costume design and production experience. I received my BA in Drama from the University of Washington and a MA in Arts Leadership from Seattle University. I have worked for Walt Disney World as a show finisher, Colonial Williamsburg costume shop, and many more. Stop in and visit, I love to teach my craft. “Peace begins with a smile.”
